Lehigh University Southside Commons
This 157,000 sq ft apartment-style collegiate housing facility consists of 424 beds and 144 apartments. It includes a fitness center, study lounges, a highly efficient HVAC system, and cooking and laundry facilities.
The site was formerly occupied by a wood-framed industrial building, but had remained vacant for over fifty years. The new 5 story building was slab on grade construction with the first floor level framed in structural steel; the building was framed in wood from the second floor up. The project was comprised of over 400 beds in a mix of singles, doubles, triples and quads. Three courtyards were created as a result of the proposed S-shaped building footprint and mass. General sustainability design criteria was followed equivalent to LEED silver, but the building was not be certified.
Lehigh Valley Health Network Carbon Hospital & Medical Office Building
Selected as a key member of the integrated team for Lehigh Valley Health Network’s ambitious project, Kane Construction employs an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach in line with Lean Construction principles. The endeavor aims to create a cutting-edge healthcare campus, featuring a seamless hospital layout, top-tier services such as surgical care by Lehigh Valley Institute for Surgical Excellence, comprehensive heart care from Lehigh Valley Heart Institute, and advanced cancer care through Lehigh Valley Cancer Institute. Additionally, the project includes a 24/7 emergency room with an on-site helipad for critical patient transport, all-private inpatient rooms for enhanced comfort and healing, and modern radiology and imaging wings equipped with technologies like MRI.
Part of this expansive initiative involves constructing a medical office building to house primary and specialty care practices, alongside a dedicated cancer care center offering women’s breast Health Services and access to leading-edge clinical trials through the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance. Moreover, the campus will provide comprehensive outpatient diagnostic testing, access to state-of-the-art medical technologies, and the renowned patient care synonymous with Lehigh Valley Health Network.
